Scaling Instruction Without Adding Instructors
Curtanna is a fencing-based learning platform designed to help academies, dojos, and training institutions scale their programs without increasing instructional headcount.
Built for iPads and supported by a web portal, Curtanna gives instructors full control over attendance, performance tracking, assessments, and class execution—even when offline.
The Challenge
Fencing and martial arts academies often face a scaling bottleneck: each new class requires a trained instructor.
Curtanna aimed to solve this by giving existing instructors a digital assistant that could guide them through lesson plans, track student performance, and manage classroom logistics—allowing institutions to grow without growing their staff.
The Solution
10 Grounds developed Curtanna as a native iPad app built in Swift, paired with a Ruby on Rails-powered backend and web portal. Trainers could download session content a week in advance, use the app fully offline during class, and automatically sync data once reconnected.
Instructors were guided through each session with visual cues, performance-based sequencing, and real-time attendance tracking. Exercises could be grouped or personalized, and student progress was tracked with both scoring and timing metrics.
The companion web portal enabled parents to register students, view reports, manage payments, and stay involved in their child’s journey.
